On January 27th, 2017 President Trump signed an executive order titled “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into the United States.” which put the #MuslimBan in place. Americans and the global community quickly mobilized in order to challenge this EO that was both discriminatory on its face and in practice. After weeks of widespread resistance and challenges to the #MuslimBan, the 9th Circuit Court voted against reinstating it, thus keeps the temporary restraining order from other courts in place. While President Trump had initially indicated that his administration would fight the decision in the Supreme Court, reports have indicated that he instead plans to sign another Executive Order effectively mandating the same restrictions, but incorporating various loopholes. To address the issues brought forth from the #MuslimBan, this panel will speak to the human cost of the #MuslimBan and its legal implications. The panel will also address the role of resistance including the ways in which allies can plug into this work and fight back against Islamophobia.
